How much do I need to know about photography?
The tours are suitable for all levels of experience, even those who have never used a digital camera before. Whatever the level of your camera equipment, we will help you make the most of its capabilities. The theory is mainly oriented to DSLRs, but rules of composition for example apply equally well to smartphones and full frame DSLRs. But both beginners and experienced photographers and will come away with memorable pictures to be proud of.
What equipment do I need to bring?
For a daytime tour a camera – preferably a DSLR – but also a point and shoot or a smartphone. If you do not own a DSLR camera and would like to try using one, you can even hire one from us.
For a night tour a DSLR is recommended to take advantage of the lower light levels, and we strongly recommend a tripod and remote control. If you do not have a suitable camera, or tripod and remote control, you can hire them from us.
If it is raining, we recommend an umberella!
What is a DSLR camera?
Digital Single-lens Reflex Camera. By using a single lens, you see in the viewfinder more or less what will be captured by the camera’s sensor. What you see is what you get! Plus a load of cool features you will learn about.
What happens if it is raining?
The weather in the Netherlands can be unpredictable, especially in spring and Autumn. But it seldom rains the for whole day. If the rain is torrential we may be able to postpone to a time later in the day, but if it is not heavy the tour will go on regardless. Photographers are a hardy breed, and anyway some of the best photo opportunities can be had in bad weather!
How far are the tours?
Daytime tours are about 5 kilometres, or 3 miles in length. Evening tours are about 3 kilometres or 2 miles. The time will fly!
What shoes should I wear?
We recommend walking shoes, or trainers with a thick sole (pavements can be quite hard after 3 hours!) It is not necessary to wear hiking boots.
What about refreshment breaks?
Morning tours
There will be a coffee break at about 12:00
Afternoon tours
There will be a coffee break at about 16:00
Evening tours
There will be a refreshment break about 90 minutes after the start
Can I cancel my booking?
If you cancel up to 24 hours before the tours you will receive a full refund. We understand that exceptional circumstances can occur, in such a case you mag be eligible for a full refund on shorter notice.
Am I Insured?
Dutch Photo Trek is not responsible for any harm or damage to your equipment while on the photo tour. We highly recommend that you should have your own insurance policy (travel insurance in our experience is a good thing.)
